c1910s Women Watermelon Party Group Knife Picnic Vintage Snapshot Photo For Sale

Nearly every woman is holding or eating a slice of watermelon, while the woman seated prominently near the center poses with a large knife used for cutting the fruit. The repetition of the watermelon slices throughout the group, combined with the central knife, creates an unusually lively and visually memorable composition.

The women appear in period dresses and hairstyles and are posed outdoors on a grassy, rocky landscape. An especially appealing image for collectors of early women’s history, social gatherings, food photography, picnics, Americana, vernacular photography and unusual vintage snapshots.

Reverse has a faint pencil inscription that appears to read “M. Card” or similar; exact reading is uncertain.
