late 1860s CDV photograph of a woman with physical deformity - Versailles France: $10.50
Up for sale is a late 1860s CDV photograph of a woman in later mourning. She appears to have a physical infirmity such as scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and seems rather short in stature. She wears a dull wool dress over a small hoop indicating it's toward the end of the crinoline period. She's also wearing a short jacket to match. Her hat has a black frill framing her face which ties under her chin in a wide ribbon bow. It appears there's a name at the bottom edge reading LECLAIRE. On the reverse is the photographer's stamp consisting of a waving banner, a crowned shield, and the name of the city, Versailles, and his address, 16 rue Hoche.Leclaire was a portrait photographer active in Versailles during the Second Empire. His studio was located precisely at 16 rue Hoche in Versailles around 1865. This address and street hold major historical significance closely linked to the city's archives. Size: 2.5" x 4" Condition: The image is excellent except for a black scar on the upper center area... see photo above. It appears the card was trimmed at the bottom and the corners so it would fit into an album. Ask about combined shipping.
