Warm, medium to rich tonal image with light aging/rubbing, mount shows light aging with edges/corners rubbed/bumped and chips at corners.
Other:
A particularly nice and somewhat less common view of Amalfi by Giorgio Sommer taken lower and closer to the water than most views show. It provides a more intimate landscape which includes portions of the Hotel dei Capuccini rarely shown.
Giorgio Sommer (1834-1914) was born in Frankfurt, Germany where he trained for his craft. His first studio was in Switzerland where he recorded mountains for the Swiss Government. By 1856 he moved to Naples, Italy, eventually partnering with Edmund Behles (1866) who maintained a studio in Rome. Together, they produced and published many images of the architecture, landscape, art objects and portraits through 1874 at which time they went their separate ways. Sommer continued to open several new studios in Naples before his death in 1914.
