1907 FAM AMA FEDERATION OF AMERICAN MOTORCYCLIST Indian Pope Yale Harley Fob:
$4550.00

This is a very important piece of motorcycle history, please see Federation of American MotorcyclistsThe formation of the FAM can be traced to the New York Motorcycle Club, whose members in early 1903 saw the need for a national motorcyclist organization and assembled a committee to study the interest level in such an organization. Further momentum for the creation of this organization was provided by the enactment of a New York City law requiring registration of motorcycles as motor vehicles. On September 7, 1903, the FAM was officially formed during a meeting of 93 enthusiasts at a clubhouse in Brooklyn. The meeting was chaired by George H. Perry, and one notable attendee was George M. Hendee of the Indian Motocycle Company, who brought 109 membership pledges from the New England area.About this trophy...the front has an attached badge that is a finely detailed gold single cylinder motorcycle engine with nicely detailed set of gold wings set on top of a round blue enamal base that reads NEW YORK at the base of the cyclinder and MOTORCYCLE CLUB surrounds the base of the engine. There\'s a few small chips in the enamal but all the words are legible...it measures approx. 1 1/4\" tall X 1\" wide X 1/4\" thick. The front reads: PRIVATE OWNERS CUP NEW YORK & BROOKLYN MOTORCYCLE CLUBS ECONOMY TEST Sept. 15 - 1907 Class B WON BYMICH. E. TOEPEL. The back reads: DONATED BY NEW YORK MOTORCYCLE CLUB. On the bottom it reads: DERBY SILVER Co.QUADRUPLE PLATE, with a 9 above it and 420 below. This winners cup was donated by New York Motorcycle Club and orginized by the New York & Brooklyn Motorcycle Clubs, the same clubs that are attributed to the creation of FAM Federation of American Motorcyclists. It measures approx. 11 1/8\" tall, from the base to the top of the handles X 9 1/4\" from handle to handle and weighs approx. 2.4 lbs, as close as my scale can weigh...the surface has tarnish and discolored areas and one small area on the back that looks like maybe the plating is worn away, I\'m not sure as the entire surface of the cup is smooth other than the lettering. Either way, in my opinion it\'s in really good shape for being a rare piece of motorcycle history over a 110 years old and attributed to the Federation of American Motorcyclists and later to be absorbed into the A&MTA and later the AMA American Motercycle Association. This is a great investment for your antique motorcycle enthusiast with a rich history of Indian, Harley-Davidson, Thor, Pope, Yale, Pierce and other great motorcycles of the past...and maybe George Hendee touched this himself, emphasis on maybe...nothing says it was, just he was a key member and it\'s very likely that he was at this event along with other famous motorcycle manufacturers and racers of the time! Being sold in As Is Antique condition...shipping quote is for the US & US Territories only, others may have additional shipping costs.
