OJIBWE/OJIBWA/ANISHINAABEFULLY BEADED ON HIDE CUFFS
Up for your consideration is a pair of fully beaded cuffs, thread stitched on hide with hide fringe.
They are in very good condition, and I see only one spot where a few beads are missing on one of the folds (see third picture, right cuff above top blue flower on the fold). They are pliable and the fringe is too. There is some reddish discoloration on the black cotton lining of both cuffs.
When I bought these, they were ID\'d as Plateau, however, the floral design is very much reminiscent of Ojibwe beadwork and I\'ve had several collectors confirm my suspicion. I would estimate that these are from the early part of the 20th century.
When flat, they measure on one edgeapproximately7.5 inches and on the other edge 6 inches in length; 5 inches and 7 inches wide (excluding the fringe). The fringe adds about 6 inches.There is a set of snaps inside of each cuff so that when worn, they can fit tighter around the wrist.
