This beautiful Mettlach beer stein (mold number 1909) was custom made for Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. I have been informed by a knowledgable collector that this stein dates to 1896, as evidenced by the "96" that is fairly well camouflaged adjacent to the green stamp on the bottom. The old Osborn Hall (formerly at the corner of College and Chapel Streets from 1888-1926) is centrally featured on the front of the stein. The shape of the football on the side of the stein highlights pre-forward pass era football. There are no chips or cracks on this stein.
