💎 Description

In daylight, this Sterling Hill trio shows a white to pale gray calcite body with a granular, sparkly texture. Bold clusters of black franklinite are scattered densely across every face, creating a striking dalmatian-like pattern with high contrast against the bright calcite. Small cream and light brown patches appear here and there across the surface.

Under shortwave UV, the specimen erupts in color. The calcite glows a saturated orange-red, and brilliant green willemite surrounds the franklinite clusters and spreads across nearly the entire surface, especially along the lower half and sides. The black franklinite stays dark, framing the glowing minerals with sharp contrast. Under longwave, the calcite shifts to a softer pink-red while the willemite still shows a bright green response. After the SW lamp is switched off, the willemite continues to glow green with strong phosphorescence.

The heavy willemite coverage gives this piece an especially bold green presence under SW, with the red calcite showing through in open patches between the clusters. A standout display piece for any fluorescent collection.

🌍 Composition

• Calcite — CaCO₃, fluoresces orange-red under SW UV and pink-red under LW UV

• Willemite — Zn₂SiO₄, fluoresces vivid green under SW UV and green under LW UV; strongly phosphorescent after SW exposure

• Franklinite — ZnFe₂O₄, black and non-fluorescent, provides dark contrast

• Natural, untreated specimen from the Sterling Hill Mine, Ogdensburg, NJ

✨ Features

• Heavy willemite coverage glows brilliant green under SW UV

• Strong willemite phosphorescence after SW exposure

• Classic red and green Sterling Hill fluorescent pairing

• Responds at both wavelengths: orange-red and green under SW, pink-red and green under LW

• Bold black franklinite clusters for striking daylight and UV contrast

• Authentic Sterling Hill Mine material from Ogdensburg, NJ
