DE BEUKELAER’S ALBUM: SNEEUWWITJE EN DE ZEVEN DWERGEN (SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS). Card covers, cord-bound with a pictorial card cover onlay and 50 color pictorial cards pasted in. Size: 13 ½ by 9 ½ inches. This is the rarer of the Snow White versions in that it doesn’t tell the Snow White story but instead focuses on the seven dwarfs and the animals from the movie. Very light rubbing and dusting to the cover edges, else complete and near fine. A remarkable survival.
In 1939, the Belgian company De Beukelaer sought to take advantage of the popularity of Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs by marketing Snow White themed chocolates and cookies. These were sold packaged with colorful cards with characters and animals from the feature which could be collected and pasted into albums, which the company also sold. The albums had blanks designated for each card, with accompanying descriptive text, issued in either French or Dutch. In subsequent years similar campaigns were based on Pinocchio, Dumbo, The Three Little Pigs, Cinderella, etc. There were either 50 or 100 cards for each album, and they had to be pasted in. Collecting and pasting complete sets was a challenge, and not many complete sets survive.
