NOS means new old stock, which basically means the part is new but is old stock. Old stock parts generally have some shelf life and a lot of times have been passed along from dealer to dealer. Some times they have been removed from original packaging and put back and some times they have been put back in non original packaging. Some times the original packaging will show some wear.
