This really nice HO gauge loco by Trix is 52 2440 00 a DR E05 electric locomotive in green livery. It has running number E05 001.

The three locomotives of the E 05 and E 05 1 series were electric test locomotives of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft for express train service . The Deutsche Reichsbahn gave the locomotives the numbers E 05 001, 002 and 103.

As part of the tender for the E 04 series, the Deutsche Reichsbahn was offered a locomotive with a drag bearing drive by Siemens-Schuckert-Werke . In order to be able to compare this drive with the spring pot drive of the E 04, the DRG ordered three test locomotives from SSW. While the electrical equipment was supplied by the Siemens-Schuckert-Werke, the mechanical vehicle parts were manufactured by Henschel & Sohn in Kassel .

The locos were put into service in 1933, and the locomotive numbers were assigned according to the different maximum speeds: E 05 001 and E 05 002 for the 110 km/h vehicles, and E 05 103 for the third engine, which travels at 130 km/h. The different speeds resulted from the comparison with the E 04, as both 110 km/h and 130 km/h locomotives were built in this series.

Due to the unsatisfactory running characteristics at speeds over 100 km/h compared to the E 04, the three test locomotives were not purchased. The machines were at Leipzig Hbf West until 1946. There they were used as a replacement for failed E 04 or electric multiple units. All three E 05s had to be handed over to the Soviet Union as reparations. The E 05 001 remained in the Soviet Union, while the E 05 002 and 103 returned in 1952. The E 05 002 then remained in the Schadlokpark of the Deutsche Reichsbahn until it was withdrawn from service on March 9, 1962.

E 05 103 was eventually returned to the GDR to form part of the Deutsche Reichsbahn\'s fleet of locomotives at Leipzig Hbf West. It was decommissioned in 1964 and used as a stationary electric switch heating system at the Halle (Saale) passenger station. Due to transformer damage, the machine was finally taken out of service in 1967 and scrapped in 1968.

The loco is in good condition as you can see in the pictures, it is fully tested and runs. A service is recommended to ensure smooth running, as the loco has been sat on the shelf for a long time. It comes complete with its box. The box is in good if slightly shelf worn condition.

Overall this is a really nice scale locomotive and would look fantastic on a layout.

Do please have a look at my other listings, I typically have various HO and OO locos on offer as well as an extensive range of imported N gauge locos and other items.

Note: I do recommend all locos are cleaned & serviced, as they have some age to them even if the quality looks at the highest level (fairly standard advice for all locos!).
