She was built at Chantiers & Ateliers Penhoet, St. Nazaire, France for the French Line. She was a 23,769 GT ship with dimensions of 690'x75'. Quadruple screw, 24 knots, four steam turbines, two masts and four funnels.
Launched Sept 20, 1910. Passenger accommodations were for 535 first, 440 second and 950 third. Maiden voyage: Havre-New York April 20, 1912.
Converted from coal to oil fuel in 1923.
In service during WW I as FRANCE IV for the French Navy. Used as a troopship and a hospital ship.
Returned to passenger service in August 1919. Laud up at Havre in 1932.
