This device is one of the two gyros that are (were) used together in large Naval Ship Guns. Guns have to be trained onto the target, (aimed), and set with the proper elevation for the shell to reach its destination. The ocean moves the ship constantly, hence the train and elevation gyros to keep the guns properly aligned.

Estate sale find. Don\'t know the provenance. Gyro spin easily. No apparent damage. Interesting piece of military history.
